Athletes and DVT

Some athletes who suffer from blood clots and Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) may have their diagnosis delayed or missed because many do not consider the medical issue to be of primary concern. Though there are no studies examining the numbers of athletes troubled with DVT or varicose veins, those who do have it may be delaying visits and check-ups in fear of sitting out from competition or practice. Similarly, many athletes are young and fit men and women who rarely think blood clots affect the fruitful youth; however some cases of DVT do strike young and active people. Blood clots are not an issue just for the elderly.

Many symptoms of DVT and dangerous blood clots are similar to that of a muscle tear or cramp – Charlie horse. Which is why athletes tend to disregard the issue as anything serious. Whether you are a young athlete or an elderly individual it is vital to your leg and vein health to take caution and consider the chances of DVT and blood clots.
