Phlebology Gets Credit with AMA
The American College of Phlebology (ACP) announced that phlebology – the diagnosis and treatment of vein disease, which afflicts 80 million Americans – has been recently approved for inclusion in the list of self-designated medical specialties sanctioned by the American Medical Association (AMA).(press release)
This is important news for the
vein treatment community for a number of different reasons. First of all, this means that the medical community as a whole is beginning to give more credibility to the doctors who perform vein treatment. Vein treatment for such problems as
varicose veins has long been considered only a cosmetic surgery. This announcement means that it can be taken more seriously for the significant medical improvements it makes to the lives of patients.
The recognition makes it possible for doctors to choose to specialize in this specific area of study or practice. The American College of Phlebology expects to see a growth in interest by doctors as a result of this announcement. This means that doors may open up for research funding and the development of new technologies to assist people who are suffering from vein problems.
