Treatments
Your legs are made up of a network of veins. Healthy leg veins contain valves that open and close to assist the return of blood back to the heart. Superficial venous insufficiency occurs when the valves that keep blood flowing out of the legs and back to the heart are abnormal. This is often hereditary. This can cause blood to pool in your legs and lead to symptoms such as pain, swelling, leg heaviness and fatigue. Signs of superficial vein disease include varicose veins, skin color changes, eczema and in the late stages ulceration. Varicose veins are known for their distinctive blue color and bulging appearance under the skin. They afflict an estimated 10%-20% of the adult population. In the United States, that translates into 20-25 million people
At the Arkansas Vein Center we offer a full range of treatment for superficial venous insufficiency along with cosmetic therapies for spider veins. Our vascular technologist and physicians may initially perform a venous ultrasound and mapping to diagnose the level of vein disease. If we diagnose superficial venous insufficiency, insurance will typically pay for treatment, which may include VNUS Closure, endovenous laser ablation, phlebectomy and sclerotherapy injections. These methods are proven effective. They are minimally invasive, utilizing local anesthetic, with little or no discomfort and a low risk of complication.
If we determine you have a normal vein network and still possess unattractive spider veins. We also offer Veinwave and injection sclerotherapy for cosmetic treatment of spider veins.
