MARK N. ISAACS, M.D.
Currently serving on the Board of Directors of the American College of Phlebology, Dr. Mark Isaacs received his initial medical training at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. He completed his residency training at an affiliated hospital of the University of Minnesota, has been Board Certified in Family Medicine since 1979 and is a Fellow of both the American College of Phlebology and the American Academy of Family Practice.
In 2008 the American Board of Phlebology offered its Board Certification examination for the first time, and Dr. Isaacs was not only in the first group to pass but is on the faculty of the review course to help other physicians study for the exam. He is on the hospital staff of John Muir Medical Center and is a member in good standing of both the California Medical Association and the California Academy of Family Physicians. He has been a clinical faculty member at both U.C.S.F. and the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Isaacs has specialized in the treatment of vein disease since 1990. He has served on the faculty of the American College of Phlebology and the Union Internationale de Phlebologie. As an early proponent of the use of duplex ultrasound to guide the treatment of varicose veins, Dr. Isaacs was the only doctor west of the Mississippi asked in 2000 to join in the original FDA trial study of endovenous laser, a method of treatment that has now become one of the gold standards for non-surgical treatment of large varicose veins. Prior to that his office was used by the VNUS company to help with the development of their radiofrequency Closure treatment.
Dr. Isaacs is a strong proponent of an ethical approach and in well-informed patients At the time of the initial consultation all prospective patients watch a short video about vein disease that gives them an understanding equal to most physicians. Properly educated patients, for example, understand that claims for miracle cures that will treat all their problems in one session are highly suspect. New patients receive a full written estimate and are encouraged to consider all alternatives before committing themselves to treatment.
Vein Specialists of Northern California Staff
Since 1990, Dr. Mark Isaacs and his staff have been serving the San Francisco Bay Area in non-surgical varicose vein removal, varicose vein treatment, and spider vein removal. At the time that they opened the office it was truly the only office specialized in vein treatment in the northern part of the state. They pride themselves on providing the highest level of medical care, garnering optimal results and patient satisfaction with fast, professional, and safe procedures. All of the vein removal treatments that the Vein Specialists of Northern California provide are non-surgical, and require no down time.
Spider and varicose veins, hand veins, body veins, vulvar veins
At the time of the initial consultation a full examination and duplex ultrasound evaluation will determine the treatment options available. Sclerotherapy, the injection of veins through a tiny needle with medication that causes them to close, is one option for spider veins and smaller varicose veins. Foam sclerotherapy is a newer option for larger varicose veins, hand veins, vulvar veins, body and breast veins Larger varicose veins caused by deeper abnormal veins may be treated with endovenous laser or radiofrequency ablation.
Techniques in which a fiber is inserted into the vein under ultrasound guidance. Closure of abnormally dilated veins not only improves your appearance but also boosts circulation, eliminating symptoms of aching, swelling, heaviness, pressure, restless legs, itching and cramping. Vulvar veins that swell and ache during the pre-menstrual period can be eliminated completely.
Facial broken capillaries and blue veins
While laser is effective for very small caliber, superficial veins on the face, it is much less effective for larger veins on the cheeks and nose. Sclerotherapy using an ultra-fine needle is both safe and stunningly effective.
Restless Leg Syndrome
Restless legs are a prominent symptom of abnormal venous circulation, even in the absence of varicose veins. Duplex ultrasound evaluation can be extremely helpful in identifying those patients with treatable, curable Restless Legs Syndrome.
