A lifelong Wichitan, Paul Cheatum, M.D. moved to Milwaukee in 2005 to be trained by the nations leading phlebology (varicose vein treatment) organization. He has been a practicing full-time phlebologist since that time and is the only physician in the region who has dedicated his entire practice to the treatment of varicose vein disease. It is because of his experience that patients can expect the best available care for their varicose vein problems.
ELT stand for Endovenous Laser Therapy, usually performed on the Great Saphenous Vein. A laser system is used to deliver laser energy and heat to the Saphenous Vein, causing the vein to close without the need to remove it. Over time your body simply dissolves the vein. This vein is diseased and is no longer needed by your body.
What are the benefits of ELT?
A simple procedure performed under local anesthetic
No incisions and therefore no scarring
Very low risk of post-procedural complications
Treatment time usually less than one hour
Typically very fast recovery
Normal activities can be resumed immediately
Excellent symptomatic and cosmetic results
SCLEROTHERAPY
Traditional Sclerotherapy, sometimes called injection treatment, is an old and very effective method of eradi- cating varicose and spider veins. This therapy is often necessary following ELT to address other large feeder veins that persist. Also, sclerotherapy is the best method of eradicating spider veins. The injections are easily tolerated and do not cause the discomfort that is associated with the use of saline, which many physicians have used in the past.
