Our Center: NYVC

The New York Vein Center (NYVC) serves patients throughout the tri-state region, and is under the direction of its medical director David M. Glass, MD, FACS. This respected and accomplished practice continues to perform the latest, proven procedures to correct and heal the effects of venous disease of the legs and face, spanning a quarter century. The practice is composed of board certified physicians including a vein surgeon and a knowledgeable, highly experienced medical staff comprised of nursing and administrative professionals.

NYVC is a multi-disciplinary vein center treating the full spectrum of venous disease. The practice primarily specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of venous disease affecting the legs – the enlarged, often painful, bluish varicose veins and the unsightly "branching" appearance of spider veins. Due to a recent breakthrough in minimally invasive medical technology, the practice has added the capability to treat and eliminate tiny spider veins found on the face.

For the convenience of NYVC patients, all procedures required to successfully diagnose and treat venous disease take place at the practice, from the initial consultation through post procedure care. Accordingly, the practice features one of region’s few Vascular Labs providing ultrasound diagnostic evaluations to confirm Dr. Glass’ findings.

Following medical school at the University Libre De Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium, Dr. Glass completed his residency at New York’s Beth Israel Center, subsequently receiving a fellowship at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

Dr. Glass became attending physician and then Associate Chief, Department of Surgery at New York Methodist Hospital. A respected vein surgeon, in addition to serving as NYVC's medical director, he is an attending vascular surgeon, Brooklyn Hospital, Brooklyn, NY. In addition, Dr. Glass is Assistant Clinical Professor, Cornell University.

Dr. Glass serves as medical director and attending vein surgeon at the New York Vein Center dedicated to diagnosing and treating venous disease with clinical offices in Brooklyn. NYVC is also certified by the prestigious Joint Commission - jointcommission.org.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a highly effective procedure producing excellent results for NYVC patients in eliminating smaller varicose veins and spider veins.

Medical data consistently underscores that between 50% to 80% of veins injected by qualified physicians can be eliminated with each session of sclerotherapy. For the 10% of patients do not respond to the sclero injections, there are alternative treatments.

Spider veins typically respond to sclerotherapy in three to six weeks; three to four months for larger veins and veins that respond to the procedure will not reappear. New veins can appear in the same vicinity requiring additional injections.

Pregnant and / or bedridden patients cannot undergo the procedure. If the patient has a history of blood clots, your NYVC physician will make the determination if sclerotherapy is appropriate.

ClosureFast™ (RF)

Closurefast™ provides relief and healing for – varicose veins, its pain, resulting swollen limbs, leg heaviness and fatigue, and issues related to the skin’s outer appearance.RF is an outpatient procedure requiring local or general anesthesia.Typically patients can resume normal activities in 1-2 days. In addition to the clinical benefits, legs gain a positive cosmetic result with minimal or no scaring, bruising or swelling.

Ambulatory MicroPhlebectomy

Ambulatory Microphlebectomy involves the removal of varicose veins through tiny incisions and is the primary procedure performed at NYVC to surgically treat varicose veins. Ambulatory Microphlebectomy is a minor surgical procedure designed to remove surface varicose veins. This procedure is usually performed at the NYVC requiring local anesthesia.

Precise, preoperative markings of the effected varicose vein are performed by a NYVC physician and local anesthesia is administered by injection.Tiny horizontal (micro) incisions are made in the treatment areas and a surgical hook migrates through the incisions to remove the faulty veins. Following the veins' removal, the leg is washed and bandaged. The incisions are tiny, stitches are generally not necessary and typically, the procedure leaves nearly imperceptible puncture mark scars. During recovery, a compression stocking is worn for a short period.

Veinwave™

Veinwave™ is FDA approved, innovative breakthrough in vein treatment developed by a vascular surgeon in Great Britain that is performed at NYVC on an outpatient basis. Spanning a decade, Veinwave™ has enjoyed success in treating tiny spider veins and telangiectasia with the procedure being particularly effective for delicate areas of the face and the treatment improves the texture of the skin.

Veinwave™ works by emitting high frequency thermal energy (a process known as thermo-coagulation) through a very fine needle. The heat causes the wall of the vein and the blood within it to breakdown. The vein collapses and instantly disappears without affecting any of the surrounding tissue.

Each treatment takes less than 30 minutes to perform, is virtually painless and patients can resume normal activities after their session. The treatment leaves no bruising and the results are instantaneous.
