Facility Information

The New York Vascular - Laser Center specializes in the treatment of venous disorders. The range of pathologies treated vary from simple cosmetic disorders such as spider veins and varicose veins to more complex and disabling diseases of the veins such as congenital malformations and chronic venous ulcerations. In order to provide optimal and state-of-the art treatment, the Center has a first rate Vascular Laboratory with a Vascular Registered Technologist, specialty trained staff, and the most up-to-date instrumentation including GE ultrasound equipment, Vari-Lase® Laser unit and Red Light illumination. The Center is directed by Dr. Harry Schanzer, a recognized international expert that has devoted his career to research and treatment of venous disorders. The facility is centrally located on Park Avenue on the corner of 84th street in Manhattan. Patients will find the New York Vascular-Laser Center to be a comfortable, quite and safe environmen that provides outstanding individualized care.


Physicians' Background

About Dr. Harry Schanzer

Dr. Schanzer practices vascular medicine and surgery in Manhattan. Areas of particular interest to him are the minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins with laser technology, the cosmetic treatment of spider veins and the treatment of advance Chronic Venous Insufficiency (venous ulcers). In his office, he directs a complete Vascular Laboratory that greatly enhances the ability to diagnose and treat circulatory disorders. Dr. Schanzer is affiliated with the Mount Sinai Hospital and with Lenox Hill Hospital, both in the city of New York.

Dr. Schanzer is an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher. He became a full Professor of Surgery at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1985. He has organized and directed numerous post graduate courses and continues to lecture world-wide on venous disorders, its diagnosis and treatment.  Dr. Schanzer, a prolific researcher, has published over 150 articles in major national and international journals on venous diseases and has authored some of the most important papers written in the past twenty years on the subject. He has contributed over 15 chapters in vascular surgical texts and produced a movie illustrating a surgical procedure he invented that treats circulatory problems of dialysis patients.

Dr. Schanzer is a member of numerous national and international societies. He is a past president of the New York Society for Vascular Surgery. He is board certified in General and Vascular Surgery.

The NY Vascular - Laser Center offers the following services:

  • Vascular Laboratory with ultrasound sonography and Doppler diagnostic capability
  • Sclerotherapy using FDA approved pharmacological agents and the most modern foam formulation. This is applicable to spiders and small-moderate size focal varicose veins
  • Electro-termo-coagulation (VeinGogh) for the treatment of red spots and small spiders of the face body and extremities
  • Laser closure of Great and Small refluxing (malfunctioning) veins
  • Microphlebectomy of varicose veins
  • Stripping of very large and tortuous Great and Small saphenous veins
  • Surgery for advance venous insufficiency with leg ulcerations
