Facility Information

At Via Vascular, we specialize in providing laser treatment as an alternative to surgery for vein conditions such as varicose veins and spider veins. With the assistance of a knowledgeable and caring team, our board-certified subspecialty-trained Interventional Radiologists perform a wide variety of minimally invasive vascular procedures using ultrasound imaging for guidance. We specialize in Laser Vein Ablation and Sclerotherapy procedures that are considerably less painful, less invasive and less expensive than traditional surgical vein removal.


Physicians' Background

Allen T. Chen, M.D., a Washington State native, received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL in 2002. In 2007 he completed his residency in diagnostic radiology from Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Chicago, IL. There Dr. Chen served as chief resident. In 2008 he completed a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology from the University of Washington. He is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology
As part of the Via Radiology group, Dr. Chen will provide professional & Interventional Radiology at both the NW Hospital campus and our new state-of-the-art multi-modality imaging center, Via Radiology-Meridian Pavilion

Shari M. Jackson, M.D.,
a Washington native, received her medical degree from the University of Washington in 2000.She completed her internship in general surgery with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2001.In 2005, she completed her residency in diagnostic radiology at Duke University Health System, where she served as chief resident. She completed her fellowship in neuroradiology in 2006, also at Duke University Health System, where she trained extensively in imaging-guided procedures. During her training, Dr. Jacksonfirst-author for two peer-reviewed publications.She is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology.
Dr. Jackson performs a wide variety of pain management procedures, including epidural steroid injections, nerve root blocks and facet injections using CT guidance.In addition, Dr. Jackson specializes in treatment of varicose veins and spider veins, utilizing endovenous laser treatment (EVLT), sclerotherapy and phlebectomy.

Ray Jensen, M.D.,
born in Texas, graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in 1990. He completed his Residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in 1995 and a Fellowship in Interventional Radiology at the University of Washington in 1996.
He is certified with the American Board of Radiology and has received a certificate of additional qualification (CAQ) in Interventional Radiology.
Dr. Jensen's area of expertise is Interventional Radiology. He is also the current Medical Director of Interventional Radiology at Northwest Hospital & Medical Center. Among the many procedures he performs are tumor therapy procedures (including radiofrequency ablation and chemoembolization), uterine fibroid embolization, vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, interventional pain management (including epidural steroid injections, nerve root blocks and facet blocks), TIPS, DVT thrombolysis, arteriography, angioplasty, arterial and venous stenting, aortic stent grafts (performed in conjunction with Vascular Surgery), venous ablation and sclerotherapy.

Dr. Jensen is one of the founders of Via Vascular.


Frederic Joseph, M.D.
, born in New York, graduated from Emory University School of Medicine in 1989. He completed his Residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Emory University in 1994 and a Fellowship in Interventional Radiology at Wilford Hall Medical Center in 1995. He is certified with the American Board of Radiology and has received a certificate of additional qualification (CAQ) in Interventional Radiology.
Dr. Joseph's area of expertise is Interventional Radiology. Stephen J. Whipple, D.O.,
received his medical degree from the University of North Texas in Ft. Worth in 2000. He completed his surgical internship with the Virginia Mason Medical Center in 2001. In 2005, he completed his residency in radiology from the University of California at Irvine (UCI). A year later, he completed his fellowship in Vascular & Interventional Radiology, also from UCI. While working toward his fellowship, Dr. Whipple also published four peer-reviewed publications (three as first author) and served as Clinical Instructor, Lecturer on human anatomy, and Student Core Radiology Instructor. He is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology.
