Updated on: August 18, 2014

There are many individuals who work all day either standing up for prolonged periods or sitting down in a cramped chair for an extended period of time. At the end of the day, the major complaint from many of these individuals is tiredness and fatigue in the legs and feet. In addition, swelling of the extremities is also a common finding in these individuals.

Today, we now have a variety of support hosiery to help prevent:

- leg swelling and decrease the leg aches and pains

- varicose and spider veins

- lymphedema

- phlebitis

- leg swelling during pregnancy

The support hosiery are available in a variety of colors, designs, pressure gradients and styles. These garments can be worn by both men and women

For support hosiery to work, one has to wear them regularly. Some of these products are available with a prescription but most are not. The most important thing one has to remember that for support hosiery to be effective, they must have graduated compression. There are many products out in the market which appear attractive and are touted to treat many conditions, but if they do not have any compression gradient, they are worthless.

Before buying any support hosiery, go and see a reputable physician or a health care professional who may be able to guide you to the best product for your disorder.
