Are There Ways to Prevent a Varicose Vein From Happening?

Some women are very much into the appearance of their legs. When they try on clothes and shoes, they often do so while placing a considerable emphasis on how those things accentuate their legs. Women exercise to make their legs look more toned in a bathing suit as well.

So, when they happen to see a varicose vein appear on their legs, it comes as no surprise that they are not thrilled to see such a thing. In fact, they might be extremely angry and go see their doctor immediately in order to find out ways to have it removed. A varicose vein is indeed very prominent, and usually makes its appearance known on the calves of the legs.

The overall appearance of this kind of vein includes said vein being swollen, and purple, blue, or green in color. While a varicose vein is most often just a cosmetic annoyance, it can also be indicative of a serious health condition, such as a clot. One way to tell if this might be the case is if the leg where the vein has appeared feels stiff and achy, and if there is a rash surrounding the vein. It is important to have this rash treated immediately, because otherwise the vein could ulcerate.

How is this type of vein caused? When the heart pumps blood, it does so to each area of the body through a network of veins. When pressure is put on the veins in the leg, it makes it harder for the veins to accommodate the blood that needs to make its way through. So, what ends up happening is that the vein swells to promote that important blood flow.

The key is stopping a varicose vein from happening has a lot to do with avoiding the kinds of things that can impair blood flow. For example, to stop a clot from happening, a person needs to be mindful of such medical conditions as high cholesterol, and high blood pressure, since both of these conditions could have a significant effect on blood circulation.

Some people might think that only older women are at risk for getting these kinds of veins, but the reality is that women who are pregnant or have just had a child are also at risk. Something that doctors often tell pregnant women is that it is important to make sure that they wear comfortable shoes. This is because as the fetus grows, the excess weight places pressure on the legs, and the leg veins will strain under the added pressure of wearing shoes like high heels.

So, the best kind of footwear for pregnant women to wear is sneakers with gel soles for extra support. For those fashion conscious pregnant women, there are also dress shoes without a heel that look nice, but also have that extra support.

Also, pregnant women should rest their legs for about fifteen minutes a day by relaxing in a recliner, or putting them up on a foot rest. For those women who already have these kinds of veins, it is important for them to talk to their doctor about medicinal injections or laser therapy, both of which being things that will significantly lessen the appearance of these veins.
