Things That Women Can do to Prevent Varicose and Spider Veins

Updated on: August 18, 2014

Female legs have become considerable fashion accessories within themselves. For example, women who have short, rather plump legs purchase high heels to complement their legs, thus making them appear longer and thinner. Skirts and pants have also been designed to complement female legs.

When a woman develops varicose and spider veins, it can be really damaging to her self esteem. Her legs, which she once displayed proudly, often become hidden under layers of clothing. However, women who find themselves in such a position have the option of getting medicinal injections or laser therapy in order to lessen the appearance of varicose and spider veins.

What are varicose and spider veins, anyway? They are caused when pressure is placed on the veins in the legs for long periods of time. This pressure hinders the amount of blood that is able to flow through those veins, so the veins end up swelling in an effort to accommodate that blood.

While weight gain is a major cause of varicose and spider veins, another thing that can cause them is the incorrect footwear. While high heels are a wonderful fashion statement, they can really mess up leg circulation if the woman is constantly walking around in them.

Yet another thing that can cause these kinds of veins is long periods of inactivity. This means that if a woman is sitting behind her desk at work, she should make sure that she gets up and walks around to improve her circulation. So, while these kinds of veins can be annoying, they can definitely be prevented.
