Treatment Options Available to Those Who Have Varicose Veins

Many women are too busy to notice their legs. Sure, there are those who worry whether their legs look too fat or too skinny, but in general, if they are sturdy enough to be able to walk on, that is all that matters. However, there are some things that occur on the legs that even the busiest woman cannot ignore.

Specifically, these things are known as varicose veins. Some people might get them confused with spider veins, but varicose veins have a distinctive presence. They are puffy veins that are dark blue, green, or purple in color. They can usually be found on the lower legs.

Yes, men can get these kinds of veins as well, but they are far less likely to as opposed to women. The main reason for this is because these kinds of veins often occur during and after pregnancy. When a woman reaches the end of her pregnancy, she has, by this point, gained a significant amount of weight.

The weight puts pressure on the legs each and every time the pregnant woman walks. This is because the legs are not just bones and muscles, they are also a network of veins. These veins are meant to carry blood to and from the heart. The more pressure that is put on the veins, the harder the heart works. As a result, blood pools within those veins, and the veins swell to accommodate the pooled blood.

In order to prevent against varicose veins, women, whether they are pregnant or not, should always wear the proper footwear. High heels are nice as a fashion statement, but they are very impractical for those women who are constantly walking places. That is why, if you happen to use public transportation, you might see classily dressed women wearing sneakers until they get to the office.

Also, these kinds of veins can happen when a woman is not sitting correctly. Many women have a tendency to sit with their legs crossed. While this is almost always something that is done subconsciously, it puts direct pressure on the legs, which leads to, of course, getting these kinds of veins.

This having been said, these kinds of veins can also occur because of genetics. No matter how these veins appear on a woman's legs, there are several different ways that they can be cleared up. It is important to note that generally, while these kinds of veins look awful, they are more of a cosmetic issue than anything else.

However, if a rash starts forming around the vein, and the woman starts experiencing stiffness and leg pain, these are both indications that the veins might be a sign of serious circulatory problem. There are two main ways to treat varicose veins. The first way is via a process known as sclerotherapy. In this procedure, over a period of some weeks medicine is injected into the veins to get them to return to normal. The second method involves laser therapy, which is meant to improve blood flow, and rebuild the damaged vein tissue.
