Ultrasound-guided sclerofoam is an endovenous chemical treatment for varicose veins which is performed under local anesthesia. While injecting foam loaded with a sclerosing agent into a troublesome vein, the phlebotomist performing the procedure is able to watch the needle on a monitor. This gives the dooctor a view of the damaged area and ensures that all of the varicose veins receive treatment.
Doctors prefer to use ultrasound-guided sclerofoam on patients with small- to medium-sized varicose veins, and it produces excellent results in more than 80 percent of those treated. The side effects are minimal but include some swelling and bruising that should disappear in a few days time.
Hospitalization isn't needed for ultrasound-guided sclerofoam, however it should be done by a medical physician. Though treatment with ultrasound-guided sclerofoam may cost half of the amount as a surgical procedure, it could be slightly more expensive than laser treatments. It doesn't, however, require time off from work, which does save money, and it isn't painful. The results of ultrasound-guided sclerofoam should last for years, though additional treatments may be necessary. Those considering a procedure to relieve the symptoms of varicose veins should search for a local provider. A simple phone call to a doctor in our directory will help to determine if you are a suitable candidate.
About Ellison Vein Institute
When it comes to varicose veins, we all know the obvious: They are unsightly. But aside from their appearance and the social distress they can cause, varicose veins present other problems. A Team Approach
To achieve the best long-term results, each patient should also be evaluated by an entire practice that is totally dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of lower-extremity venous disorders—including physician, registered vascular technologist, nurse practitioners, nurses and other professionals. Only after a complete evaluation is it possible to formulate an individualized treatment plan, customized for each patient’s needs and desires.
We offer the latest diagnostic and treatment methods for all venous disorders, including a full-service, non-invasive vascular laboratory with state-of-the-art technology to accurately and comfortably diagnose circulatory disorders.
The Right People, The Right Place
Ninety-five percent of the procedures we perform take place right in our office. Sometimes a hospital setting is preferred due to insurance requirements, patient preference or the nature of complex procedures. In these cases, we can perform procedures in the ambulatory surgical suite conveniently located just below our office.
