Veinwave in Irvine, California (CA)

The recent FDA approval of Veinwave means that patients with unsightly spider veins (telangiectasia) are able to experience the wonderful results that people in Europe have been enjoying for years. This revolutionary technique has been perfected by vascular surgeons for the treatment of these troublesome veins and is a great improvement from traditional treatments like sclerotherapy and laser treatment.

Veinwave uses thermocoagulation, or high frequency energy to heat the veins, causing them to disappear instantly. A one-time use, thin, insulated needle is used to deliver these waves. The ultra-fine needle allows for the extremely accurate application of the treatment, protecting the skin and tissue, for help in preventing ugly scarring. Veinwave is effective in treating areas, such as the ankle or knees, that cannot be treated through alternative methods. Patients are able to see results immediately. While Veinwave does not cause bruising, patients may experience some redness or small marks that look like scratches that will disappear within a few days.

The patient will have an initial consultation with a doctor to determine the most effective treatment regimen.
Then, the course of treatments is delivered through a series of three to five 15-minute sessions where 40 to 50 centimeters of veins can be treated. Veinwave is an excellent alternative to sclerotherapy or laser treatments which may cause permanent scarring through skin pigmentation. There are no risks of allergic reactions like those associated with the injected solution in sclerotherapy and there is no recovery period. Unlike other treatments, the patient experiences minimal pain and does not require bandages, so they are able to resume normal activity immediately following treatment. The cost of Veinwave will vary by your location and facility, but can cost from $400 to $800.

About Vein Center of Orange County

At VCOC, Dr. Kanter performs all consultations himself. We are highly specialized in phlebology (vein disorders), and do not offer an array of unrelated procedures; i.e., we do not do liposuction, hair removal, Botox, etc. VCOC has a full-time, on-site duplex ultrasound system, and was the first vein disorder center in southern California to offer both advanced “color-flow” imaging for improved accuracy, the first to offer ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy since 1991, and the first to offer endovenous laser treatment for large varicose veins using the FDA-approved, patented Biolitec ELVeS® system.
Because every case is different, and because veins visible on the surface often have deeper sources hiding underneath, it is impossible to provide an accurate cost estimate over the phone. Appearances are often deceiving: what looks simple to you may actually be more complicated to treat, and what looks complicated may actually be simple to treat. Therefore, we offer low-cost consultations by appointment. This is not a cursory, momentary glance at your veins.

Vein disease is in fact a medical problem, and we treat it as such. We therefore allow time for the attention to detail necessary to make an accurate diagnosis, and to answer any questions you may have before you leave the office. After a careful review of your medical history and concerns, every vein patient receives a painless Doppler screening examination, and duplex ultrasound examination if indicated. Based on the specific findings in your case, Dr. Kanter will then personally: 1) discuss any recommended diagnostic procedures, 2) review the pros and cons of all treatment options appropriate for your case, both surgical and non-surgical, and 3) provide you with a written cost estimate. With your permission, a brief report will be sent to your referring primary care doctor as a courtesy.

The fee for initial consultation with Doppler depends on the complexity of the case: 30-minute consultations for spider veins are $85, and 60-minute consultations for large varicose veins are $125. The fee for duplex examination is $295.00 if needed; duplex is required for most varicose veins and rarely for spider veins.
