The 14th Annual International Vein Congress Welcomes Hundreds of Vasuclar Specialists from Around the World

More than 600 vascular specialists met April 28-30 at the Loews Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida, for the 14th annual International Vein Congress (IVC). An international faculty presented a multidisciplinary agenda to vascular surgeons, cardiologists, interventional radiologists, and more.

“Since the beginning, IVC has strived to give attendees essential information to improve outcomes back at their own practice,” said course director Jose I. Almeida MD, FACS, RPVI, RVT. “This year was no different. Whether it was through live cases or the didactic sessions, our faculty knocked it out of the park with their presentations.”

The IVC 2016 agenda focused on both superficial and deep vein topics, including C-1 disease foam sclerotherapy treatment, thermal and non-thermal ablation, deep vein thrombosis, and more. Broadcasted live from the Miami Vein Center, IVC 2016 featured live cases on trans-abdominal venous duplex imaging and sclerotherapy, and more.
“Cases are streamed directly into the educational ballroom and the audience, as well as an expert panel, can ask questions and make comments to the physicians as they work through the procedures,” said course co-director Edward G. Mackay, MD, FACS, RPVI, RVT.

Dr. Mackay presented his radiofrequency ablation and ambulatory phlebectomy case on Friday, April 29.

“This format gives our attendees the chance to direct the conversation and discussions to issues affecting their practice right now,” Dr. Mackay said.

Attendees had another chance to grill a panel of experts during the annual V2 Symposium. The V2 Symposium is a 90-minute session moderated by Steve Elias, MD, FACS, FACPh; exclusively dedicated to fielding and answering challenging questions and issues in the vein care world. In their responses, each member on the panel brought their different backgrounds and preferences to the table to provide the attendees with an answer from many points of view.

In between sessions, attendees mingled and networked in the exhibit hall, where medical device companies, publishers, even physician brand managers met with the attendees to showcase their products and services.

“IVC 2016 would not be possible without the support of these companies,” Dr. Almeida said. “Their presence here means attendees can go from learning about the procedure or issue in the educational ballroom to seeing the necessary tools in person in the exhibit hall.”

IVC 2016 live cases and didactic sessions will be available to watch on IVC’s educational arm, VeinGlobal.com.
