Venous Symposium A Success by Every Measure

The third annual Venous Symposium in New York welcomed more than 500 participants at what has been recognized as one of the most interactive venous meetings.

Now in its third year, the Venous Symposium in April brought together primarily physicians, along with allied health professionals, in an atmosphere dedicated to understanding deep venous disease. Led by Nicos Labropoulos, Ph.D., RVT , and Antonios Gasparis, M.D., the course featured renowned faculty who covered in great depth the primary topic areas of evaluation and imaging, thromboembolism and chronic disease. Optional workshop provided concentrated education in superficial interventions, wound care and compression, and ultrasound imaging.

The course is unique for the scanning of patients that takes place during many of the sessions with a goal of demonstrating for attendees what has been covered in lectures.

“This is an ideal way to follow up the talks,” said Dr. Labropoulos, who is internationally known and conducted some of the scanning during the course. “We can show everyone what to look for in terms of diagnosis and how to determine the best and most appropriate therapy.” In 2012, the meeting took the bold move of offering simultaneous Spanish translation to facilitate learning for some of the nearly 80 foreign physicians who attended. In addition to those from Latin America and Iberia, others came from as far away as Australia, South Africa and Singapore. A full exhibit hall complemented the academic program by providing an opportunity for attendees to understand the products and services available in support of practices.

“The entire venous community participated,” said Dr. Gasparis. “This was a meeting for everyone, and we believe important learning took place. Feedback from the attendees indicates a great success. In the end, that is the measurement we use to decide whether to go forward with another meeting and what to cover.”
