Welcome to the UIP Hosted by the American College of Phlebology!

In 2009, during the UIP World Congress Meeting in Monaco, the International Union of Phlebology members selected the American College of Phlebology (ACP) as the host of the next World Congress Meeting in September of 2013. Dr. Nick Morrison (ACP’s President at the time), along with Executive Director Bruce Sanders, presented the bid to the attending UIP Board Members to host this prestigious meeting. There were numerous competing bids submitted by other phlebology societies. The entire leadership, membership, and staff of the American College of Phlebology are proud to have been selected and entrusted with the honor of hosting the World Phlebology community in Boston, September 8–13, 2013, at the Hynes Convention Center, a world-class facility in historic Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

This meeting will replace the ACP’s usual Annual Congress typically held in November. With an expected attendance of nearly 2000, this will be the largest gathering of vein experts ever to be assembled. Doctors Nick Morrison and Mark Meissner have worked tirelessly for nearly four years to organize the most extensive and comprehensive scientific meeting the UIP has ever convened. The work of Program and Scientific Committees, as well as of the ACP staff, has been to bring together world experts to address the full spectrum of topics in the field of phlebology and to provide the most up-to-date scientific information available.

For the first time, all plenary sessions will feature simultaneous translation into Spanish. Additionally, translators will be available in the convention center to help non-English speakers navigate their way to their destinations and activities. Be sure to check out the 2013 UIP website for the preliminary program details and for all of the activities planned for this exciting meeting at www.UIP2013.org

Throughout the week attendees will not only have exposure to the most current information from the foremost leaders in venous disease, just as importantly, they will be able to meet and reunite with colleagues from around the globe. The Program Committee has planned a free afternoon for Wednesday, September 11, so that attendees can see and enjoy the pedestrian-friendly city of Boston during colorful autumn in New England.

There will be a spectacular gala dinner on Thursday evening, September 12, which will feature food and entertainment from different regions of the United States for our colleagues from around the world. You will not want to miss this once in a lifetime event!

As the current sitting President of the ACP, I am very proud to host this prestigious event and I would like to extended an honored welcome to the current UIP president, Dr. Angelo Scuderi, and to all the member organizations he represents. I look forward to seeing you all in Boston in September.
