Methodology for the reader survey
The VEIN Magazine 2008 Most Influential Reader Survey was conducted in the following manner, and with the stated limitations:
The “Most Influential” list is not purported, or meant to be in any way an exhaustive listing or all-inclusive. The voting was only open to current readers of VEIN who had provided email addresses to the magazine’s publishing offices. The readership queried included research facilities, manufacturing specialists, medical practices, academic concerns, hospitals, venous industry allies and other individuals associated with venous care. As VEIN Magazine’s database grows so will the scope of its survey answer pool.
The respondents were, by virtue of the email addresses on file at VEIN Magazine’s offices, the official recipients of a subscription to VEIN Magazine. 4.1% of the survey’s respondents were from outside the continental United States. The initial nominations were gathered through an open invitation sent to the readers as described above for nominations in the field. Nominees were then sent an electronic question and answer form to return to VEIN which would be required and used for the final list in voting. Self-nominations were accepted, except in two isolated cases where the self-nomination was not in earnest, and a call to the person(s) in question confirmed the same. The only other action that removed a nominee from the final voting ballot was a declination on the part of the nominee, which occurred in three instances.
The final selection was based on a straight one-vote-per-respondent system with safeguards in place to allow only one response from each voter tied to the ranking of a nominee as a finalist. The results were then tallied with a one-for-one vote deciding the final twenty-five. In the event of a tie regarding the inclusion of a nominee in the final twenty-five, a tally was made of the number of times they were nominated in the first round, taking care not to count duplicate nominations from the same origin as more than one nomination.
The final twenty-five are not listed here ranked by order of votes they received. The votes were only counted to secure the top twenty-five out of the nominees. The listing in this survey is presented alphabetically. Finally, no statement implied or otherwise, is made regarding endorsement of practices, services or goods offered by the final twenty-five on the part of VEIN Magazine, as the finalists were chosen by VEIN readers solely and independently of VEIN Magazine.
