What does it mean to be influential? Is the ability to influence something we are born with, or is it something that must be acquired? If you take a good, long look at the leaders in our world, you might surmise that influence is a fortuitous combination of natural instinct and passion. Some say to be truly influential, one must also be able to forge a path of greatness for others with an unselfishness to which only few can commit. In such cases, Influence is using one’s power for the greater good, for the benefit of others and for the sheer gratification one gets from seeing the results of one’s efforts make a difference for others, even if just for a brief moment.
What does it mean to be recognized? Every day, in countless ways, our peers and colleagues are helping to advance the field of phlebology with their drive for excellence and their dedication of time, experience, skill, and compassion. However, to be truly recognized, one must stand out for a level of achievement which few will ever reach. Recognition is the honor bestowed upon the exceptional for works that were done selflessly, and in their purest form, without expectation of acknowledgement.
Recently, VEIN Magazine’s readers nominated and voted for those who they feel are most influential and worthy of recognition within the venous arena. Brought to the forefront were physicians and allied health professionals, researchers and practitioners, some in academia or private and/or group practice, some in hospitals, labs and clinics. While not every nominee advanced to the Top 25, their achievements and contributions are no less meaningful to this quickly growing segment of healthcare.
