A new, highly interactive vein meeting is coming to town. The Venous Symposium in New York, scheduled for April 8-9, has specialists excited about a top-quality educational opportunity in a dynamic, easy-to-get-to setting.
Designed to address all aspects of venous disease, the course combines the didactic and the practical to give attendees information they can immediately take back to the office and begin using. The course will encompass superficial, perforator and deep vein pathology. Physicians, whether new to the venous arena or already seasoned, will find the course highly valuable, as will allied health professionals working in the field.

Leading experts will cover such topics as general concepts in venous testing and imaging, prophylaxis and treatment of thromboembolism, chronic venous disease, including central venous obstruction, sclerotherapy, compression and ulcer care, and much more. applied knowledge will be taught throughout the meeting with faculty providing algorithms for management and many tips for optimizing care.
Each session tackles a single subject in depth and concludes with a live case presentation and discussion. The live cases include ultrasound imaging of patients with relevant pathology. attendees and a panel of faculty will then engage in discussion that allows for an important exchange of opinions. attendees can even bring their own cases to discuss during the appropriate session.
“You cannot beat this approach,” says course Director Antonios Gasparis, MD. “What better way to learn than to
listen to those with years of experience under their belts and then follow up by viewing a case during which everyone can weigh in. We encourage everyone to challenge traditional thinking and to share suggestions. We want all participants to feel free to ask questions and contribute.”
A total of six live case presentations will take place over two days to give attendees strong visuals as a follow up to
the lectures. “The overall goal is for attendees to learn about all the current methods of investigation and treatment, their advantages and shortcomings,” Dr. Gasparis says.
The closing session on practice building will deal with the essentials of optimizing billing and seeking accreditation of theoffice-based vascular lab in addition to the business potential of adding cosmetic procedures to a venous practice.
Venous Symposium workshops
“We provide a comprehensive look at everything a vein specialist needs to know,” says course Director Nicos Labropoulos, Ph.D., RVT. “We aim to send attendees home better equipped than when they arrived. The program goes wide and deep.” A concentrated two-hour workshop session offers another chance for attendees to dig down and come away with practical knowledge. Four different workshops will be run multiple times within a two-hour window on the first day. attendees will have a chance to complete a full rotation, which includes superficial venous interventions, wound care and compression, deep venous interventions and ultrasound imaging.
“The workshop session is intensive,” Dr. Gasparis says. “That is our intention. Professionals today must understand the complete care of the venous patient, so we will provide a complete picture.”
