After sclerotherapy, when can I switch to a lower grade compression stocking?

It's been 10 days since I had sclerotherapy. I have been wearing 30-40 mmHg compression stockings. When can I switch to 20-40 mmHg compression?

After a week, patients can switch to the lower compression. The compression helps with the healing process. Please do check with your doctor.

After the 10 days, you do not have to wear any compression stockings if you choose not to. Some people wear them, but it is not medically necessary to do so. If you do want to wear compression stockings, make sure they are a 20-30 mmHg compression.

It's fine to switch to a low-grade compression stocking.

You didn't mention what type of sclerotherapy you had. Spider veins or deeper larger veins. In our practice we only use 30-40 mmHg for severe venous problems or those with deep vein thrombosis. For topical sclerotherapy and most ultrasound guided sclerotherapy 20-30 mmHg pressure is enough. Our patients typically wear the hose for 7 days.

I only prescribe 20-30mmHg compression post sclerotherapy and I recommend wearing them for just 48 hours post treatment. 20-40 compression is more than is necessary for sclerotherapy.

Ask your MD. It depends on what veins were injected.
