I've been seeking out a laser center and plastic surgeon in Dayton who will treat my large facial veins, but with no success. They've informed me that operating on large veins near the eye socket/cheek bone area is risky. Any thoughts? Can my facial veins be treated?
It is possible to treat certain reticular facial veins with sclerotherapy, but it should be done by a skilled vascular surgeon and should be performed with great care.

While sclerotherapy is not recommended for facial veins, surface lasers can be used. Should you choose to go this route, be sure to find a board certified surgeon who has experience and success with treating facial veins.

Some facial veins can be treated, but I'd be surprised to find an interventional radiologist who would treat, unless they were causing significant problems for you. It is just too risky to treat veins in the facial region, regardless of the type of treatment. The risk of interrupting blood flow to the regions of the head/brain in general is very high, that is why I would be surprised if you found a physician that would treat. It may take a while before you do find one.

Sometimes facial veins can be treated with sclerotherapy, but it depends on a number of factors (including the placement of the vein and the experts level of experience and comfort). Try looking for a board-certified vein specialist who has performed the procedure on facial veins and who has done so multiple times with success.

Treatment of infraorbital and temporal facial "reticular" veins (blue-green veins) is routinely done with injections by experienced vein specialists. The problem will be finding an experienced vein specialist in your area. The American Board of Phlebology is a good start, for they issue certification to those physicians who meet their rigorous standards.

As long as the large facial veins are outside the bony orbit rim, they can be treated. See an experienced vein specialist who has done such work before.

Yes, facial veins can be treated. There is a small risk with treating facial veins (slightly greater than treating leg veins). Still, it can be done effectively with sclerotherapy. There are practitioners, such as myself, who do this routinely so just keep looking in your area.

If the large facial veins are near the eyes, sclerotherapy is not recommended.

We avoid sclerotherapy on the face and especially these larger veins around the eyes. We do treat them, however, with a Cutera 1064 yag handpiece quite successfully. You should seek someone with experience in treating these.

Most facial veins can be treated by sclerotherapy but not all. The most difficult veins to treat are the veins near the junction of the nose and inner part of the eye. See someone with experience treating facial veins.
