Are long periods of standing after EVLA safe?

My job (bar manager) requires me to stand for long periods of time and occasionally lift heavy objects (but not for sustained periods.) I am 25 and in good shape, leg is healing with no pain after 2 days. Is it safe to return to work on the 4th day?

It is safe to return to work after two days. Long periods of standing are safe, with walking in between, and you can pump your foot up and down 20 times every hour like pumping on the gas paddle to increase blood return via calf muscle pump. The blood tends to pool during periods of prolonged standing. Also, you should wear compression stocking for at least two weeks after the procedure.

While it makes sense to take a few days off work after EVLA, it is not mandatory. Patients can return to work the next day wearing a compression hose. This is especially true with the newer lasers.

You can certainly get back to work, but you must wear your compression stockings.

Our patients return to work as early as the next day. However, if you work standing for prolonged periods, we usually recommend you take two days to recover and then wear the hose when you go back to work for support. For those whose work requires prolonged standing, we often suggest wearing the hose for about 3 weeks while at work. We feel that lifting about 30 lbs is okay, but use your body mechanics and bend your knees to take the pressure off the abdominal muscles (which you should do anyway). You are 4 days out without problems, so you should be just fine to return to work.

Yes, it is safe. I generally tell my patients to wear support stockings for 2 weeks after the procedure, however.

You can return to work on the fourth day and listen to your body. You can stand for long periods of time as long as you are comfortable.

Returning to work is fine, but if you could take a few minutes to elevate your leg if it begins to swell.

EVLA is a huge advancement in the treatment of varicose vein disease. It is a minimally invasive technique that really does not require any down time after treatment. I actually encourage my patients to walk, move and exercise as much as possible after their procedure because the more you move, the faster you heal. Just keep in mind that depending on what part of the leg was treated, your leg may not feel normal (tight, sore, achy, etc.), but that will all go away as you heal.

It is safe to return to work four days post a closure procedure. In fact, I encourage my patients to return to work as soon as they feel comfortable, and some return the same day or one day later. Compression would be important for at least two days to keep the swelling and bruising to a minimum.
