Bruising and staining after sclerotherapy treatment, will bleaching cream fade this?

Will a bleaching cream used twice daily (hydroquinone) fade the staining left after sclerotherapy ? How long will I have to use it? I have a few areas that are very, very noticeable after 4 months bruising as well.

Bruising after sclerotherapy usually indicated areas of "trapped blood" in larger "feeder" veins. In our practice we would ask that our patients return if they notice areas such as this 2+ weeks after treatment. These areas are easily released and thereafter heal faster. Bleaching cream can help with staining after sclero but we usually recommend IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments if the surrounding skin doesn't have a lot of pigmentation or freckles. Often times, the staining will face over time and this varies from person to person.

Time is usually the best treatment. The creams tend not to help much, but you can try them I suppose. It may leave a permanently light spot however. Ask you practioner.

Staining that occurs after sclerotherapy usually improves on its own and may take up to a year to do so. I have, however, seen patients whose staining doesn't improve. The first thing to so is to look for any residual sources of reflux and treat those if present. If there is no further reflux then a trial of bleaching cream is worth it although there is no guarantee that this will help. IPL may also sometimes lighten the areas.
