My left leg keeps going almost completely numb from the knee down. My father has peripheral artery disease; however, I am only 27 years old. I have flat-lined before. I am now in recovery, but still have poor circulation and body temperature. I saw a cardiologist who said it could be nerve damage. Would compression stockings help with the numbness I am having in my leg?
I would discuss this with your doctors or a neurologist. You can always try a low-level (15-20 mmHg) compression stocking that is knee-high. Start by wearing them for short periods of time to see if there is any change.

Compression stockings will not help if you have a neurological problem.

I'm sorry for your difficulties. You've been through more than most 27 year olds. Still, your age tells me that you have a lot of potential for recovery. In that sense, any improved circulation to your leg (and its nerves) will help with the recovery. Improved circulation brings more oxygen and nutrition to your nerves, as well as carrying away microscopic waste products. Circulation has an arterial and a venous side. Arteries bring blood to your leg, veins take it back to the heart and lungs. Both are important. Both can be checked with ultrasound. Ask your doctor to check the arteries, the deep veins, and the superficial veins of your leg!

The answer is no, compression stockings will not help the numbness in your leg.

At your age, nerve damage or peripheral neuropathy is most likely the problem. It is not likely circulation. You should probably see a neurologist.

I am going to recommend that you ask your neurologist about compression stockings and how they might affect your condition. We treat patients with vein problems, not nerve issues.

It is very unlikely that compression stockings will help with the numbness in your leg. You need to see a neurologist and a vascular surgeon.
