Can ELVeS prevent new varicose veins?

I've heard that ELVeS can prevent new varicose veins from occurring, and from recurring once a given area has been treated. Is this true, and if not, can any treatment prevent varicose veins?

Following a closure procedure, there is a 5 to 10% chance of recurrence of varicose veins or new varicose vein formation over about 5 years. There are many reasons for recurrences and new VV formation, due to new leaking valves in other veins such as perforators, accessory veins, and branches. The best preventive measure for veins consists of keeping fit and not overweight, wearing support hose, and following up with a vein specialist.

Endovenous laser ablation treats the underlying cause of varicose veins. While it may prevent future varicose veins, I do not recommend it as a prophylactic procedure. If this is performed for varicose veins, it may decrease the chances of varicose veins in the future.

ElVeS (Endo Laser Vein System) is a new endovenous laser treatment that treats the underlying cause of most varicose veins: saphenous and small saphenous vein insufficiency. Treating the underlying cause in turn will likely prevent the development of new varicose veins in the area of the leg that is served by the treated vein.
