Can EVLT get rid of my muscle strains and night cramping?

I've been considering endovenous laser treatment (EVLT) for two years. I'm an active 50 year old female who runs. For more than six years I've had frequent muscle strains of the lower leg and calf while doing activity, and for approximately 10 years I've had night cramping. Can EVLT resolve this issue or are these symptoms not a causation of varicose/spider veins?

It is unlikely that 'muscle strains and night cramping' are the result of having insufficiency of the Great Saphenous Vein or the Small Saphenous Vein so EVLT will not likely provide the relief you are seeking.

Venous insufficiency can be a cause of restless legs and night cramping, but there are many other potential causes. Even if you have venous insufficiency, there is no guarantee that treating the insufficiency will improve the restless and cramping. If you have cramping and/or restless legs and venous insufficiency documented by ultrasound, you should speak to your vein specialist about the chances of improving with a closure procedure.

Night cramping and restless leg syndrome are definitely related to vein problems. A simple ultrasound procedure can determine whether you have abnormal veins that may need treatment. Sounds as if you may already know you have abnormal veins. I have had many patients with night cramping and restless legs whose symptoms improved after EVLT.

Your symptoms are probably not venous in nature and more likely due to the running. People with restless leg syndrome can get relief of symptoms following vein treatment but cramps and strains to be improved.

Night cramps and muscle strains are caused by the flux of calcium in and out of muscle tissue. This would not be addressed or affected by an endovenous laser treatment (EVLT). Therefore, treatment of varicose veins will not eliminate nocturnal muscle cramps or muscle strains. Avoiding sugars and sweets at dinner and before bedtime is often effective at decreasing nocturnal muscle cramps.

It is possible that endovenous laser treatment could help resolve your muscle strains and night cramping, but it depends on whether the cramping is caused by venous insufficiency.

You will need to be evaluated in person before a diagnosis can be made and a treatment plan is formulated. From there, you will know for certain if you have a varicose vein disease and whether endovenous laser ablation will help.

I had EVLT about 2-3 weeks ago and I'm still experiencing sharp pain. It's mostly when I stand or walk. Even when I wear a compression stocking during standing or walking, there is no relief. But if I don't wear the stocking, it feels like my vein is exploding. I checked with my vascular surgeon and he said I have a clot. What should I do? Is there any way to get the pain to subside? NSAIDs are not helping. Is it possible to remove the clot? If so, will the pain go away then?

I went to have my 6 month ultrasound after having both legs treated with endovenous laser ablation. According to my doctor, there is still trapped blood below my right knee. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? I completely regret doing this. :(

I clearly needed post-EVLT microphlebectomy or sclerotherapy. Why would I have to wait six months to be re-evaluated, when my legs clearly are not improved cosmetically? I feel that it should be done as soon as possible. What are your recommendations?
