Could I have endovenous laser ablation?

I recently had massive blood clots in the left leg, becasue of inactivity in the other leg, it was in cast. My body has now absorbed the blood clots and i am still on comadine/warfin until December 2011 this year.

Would have to see you and perform an ultrasound. DVT's are a "relative" contraindication to EVLT. The evlt is performed on refluxing or leaking superficial veins and the DVT is of course a clot in the deep veins and the two are usually unrelated.

If you have saphenous vein reflux causing symptoms and varicose veins and the deep veins are open and functioning, you are a candidate for laser ablation by an experienced vascular trained surgeon. This can be performed while on blood thinners. I would recommend you be tested for inherited clotting disorders first as a precaution if not already done.

You might be a candidate depending on your symptoms and the findings on your
insufficiency ultrasound. Is there severe superficial vein insufficiency
and what is the status of your deep system. Is there deep insufficiency and
do your superficial veins serve as significant outflow tracts? A lot of
issues to consider.

Before any endovenous ablation you will need a complete venous ultrasound of both the superficial and deep systems. To have venous ablation of the superficial system, there needs to be adequate drainage of the venous system. Because there was DVT does not negate doing a venous ablation. However, I would like to see adequate recanalization of the deep system, no acute residual clot and improvement of DVT symptoms before proceeding with ablation.
