Do Compression Stockings have to be worn on both legs?

If I have problems with just one leg, can I wear one compression knee high or should I wear both?

Consult with your doctor, but the most important element is wearing the stocking on the treated leg for a few weeks to lower the complication rate and decrease the incidence of Deep Vein Thrombosis. Wearing a stocking on the non-treated leg may just be more comfortable, but it is a matter of personal preference.

It is not unusual to develop venous insufficiency in only one lower extremity and if only one extremity is symptomatic, then wearing the stocking on that leg would be fine. Most important question is whether the symptoms you have are related to your veins. I would recommend discussing this with your physician.

It would be unusual to have venous insufficiency on one leg only. It is possible that one leg is worse than the other. You would most probably benefit by wearing compression stockings on both legs.

Most people would be better off if they wear the hose on both legs. Most patients who have significant venous insufficiency in one leg will develop it sooner or later in the other leg. Use of compression hose will slow down the inevitable effects of gravity on our veins.

My vascular surgeon did an ultrasound and prescribed endovenous laser ablation. She also suggested that I wear compression stockings after the procedure. However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
