Enlarged greater saphenous around ankle, is EVLT a good option?

I have a painful/enlarged greater saphenous vein along its course to my groin, however most painful near my ankle bone, does EVLT take care of this distal location since the procedure is only done from the knee to the groin for this vein?

Likely would need a follow up procedure in addition to evlt but it is usually smaller after evlt.

Usually yes this helps and reduces pressure in the vein below as well.

The treatment of the proximal saphenous vein will certainly help. You might also need treatment of the saphenous vein with sclerotherapy in the segment between the knee and the ankle.

Typically EVLT should be avoided in the ankle area due to possible nerve damage. There is usually less "padding" and more nerves. In our experience we find that treating the long saphenous from below the knee or lowest area of reflux often results in improved circulation and function of the saphenous below that area. One question would be: Are there varicosities in the ankle area? If so, they could be treated with microphlebectomy at the same setting as the EVLA.

EVLT usually ends around the knee to prevent injury to the saphenous vein. However, ultrasonic directed sclerotherapy can be done for the saphenous vein from the knee to the ankle and microphlebectomies can be done for veins around the ankle.
