If you have associated symptoms such as leg fatigue, leg heaviness, and other lower extremity discomfort, you should first obtain a clinical evaluation and ultrasound study to assess for underlying venous disease.

Otherwise, there are also treatment options for spider veins include sclerotherapy and laser. However, those treatment options depend on whether you present an underlying venous disease causing your superficial veins to dilate. See a vein specialist for any concern.

All the best!

Absolutely not. Asymptomatic spider veins are a cosmetic issue. You could be evaluated at a "vein clinic" and be told you have a deeper saphenous vein issue. Without symptoms, there isn't a reason to treat these if actually present. We see a lot of people for second opinions who actually do not have problems with their deeper veins. If the spider veins are visually unacceptable to you, they are easily treated. providing any underlying "Feeder veins" are also treated.

Most of the time spider veins are just a cosmetic nuisance, especially spider veins on outside / lateral thigh. They can around the ankle be a sign of more significant vein problems, but without any symptoms, I dont think you should be concerned.

If you have no symptoms, then it is of cosmetic concern and you can choose to pay out of pocket to treat them.

Many people have spider veins and there are many reasons for them to occur including genetics, hormones, aging, pregnancy and sun exposure. You should not worry about them. If you choose to have them treated then sclerotherapy would be the treatment of choice.

I knelt down the other day and injured the large varicose vein over my knee. It bruised quickly and felt very sore, so I put a pressure bandage on it. Since then, the bruise has spread and is now about 12" up my thigh. It is very red, and I'm not sure what to do. Do you have any advice?
