The VNUS procedure (radiofrequency ablation) uses high-intensity, high-frequency radio waves to generate heat that seals the vein. EVLT, on the other hand, uses a laser that generates heat that seals the vein. Both procedures are equal as far as rates of vein closure and complications. Both require tumescent anesthesia around the vein to both collapse the vein for treatment as well as "numb" the vein for comfort during the procedure. Some clinics offer both therapies others offer one or the other based on the proceduralist preference.

Both endovenous laser treatment and VNUS have similar results. The best procedure is the one your physician is most comfortable with performing.

Both procedures are effective in sealing saphenous veins. The experience of your surgeon and training in vascular surgery is more important.

Both are endovenous techniques to close leaking(refluxing valves}. Vnus uses radiofrequency energy and laser uses light energy. As far as comparison-the techniques of the procedure and long term results are about the same. Some claim less patient bruising and pain with RF but I have seen very little difference.

They are very similar with pretty much the same ultimate outcome. EVLT uses a laser and VNUS uses radio-frequency, that is the difference. We have chosen to use VNUS because it seems to be a little more comfortable for the patient and tends to result in less bruising, swelling, pain, etc.

Ijust had VNUS closure surgery 4 days ago and the pain is minimal. But, I did notice today it feels like there is a throbbing or heartbeat, almost like a twitching or pumping in my upper leg. It doesn't hurt. Is this normal? What's causing the pulsing/throbbing? Also, am I able to tan (tanning bed or stand up) if I wear my support hose so my leg is not directly exposed to the light, and if I don't use tanning lotion on the leg?? When will the fat, worm-like veins go down or look better?
