The answer does vary because there is very little research on the subject. Compression is mainly to minimize bleeding and bruising after phlebectomy. It can also help with ankle swelling. Hemostasis is achieved within 24 hours. Compression beyond this time can help with edema and prevention of trapped blood in vein segments that were not removed. I have my patients use compression for 3 days after phlebectomy.

The length of time does vary, but you are the one to benefit from more prolonged use. I would recommend a minimum of 7 days, longer if you still have swelling, or residual bulging veins.

I usually say 2 weeks during the day. Some say only a week though.

Depends on how large the veins were that were removed and if there is a concern of bleeding or other. Typically, 7-10 days should be enough.

Yes, hose use varies from surgeon to surgeon. My patients wear them for 48 hours post-procedure, then during the day for an additional 5 days. I do have them massage with a cream such as Dermaka several times per day. There may be small "knots" at the sites, which I encourage pinpoint (fingertip) massage to reduce small amounts of scar tissue. You should follow your surgeon's instructions.

It really depends on the procedure you underwent.

Yes, there is some controversy on how long to wear stockings after microphlebectomy. In general, I feel the longer the better, but 2 weeks should suffice.

I recommend wearing support hose for 2 days following microphlebectomies, or longer if the legs feel better with them.
