How long should I wait to have my spider veins removed following foam sclerotherapy?

I had EVLT and foam sclerotherapy on my right leg. My Dermatologist suggested using laser to remove spider veins and other discoloration. He would only do this once the underlying problem (reflux) corrected itself. How long do I wait to have laser done?

If the spider veins are in the distribution of the underlying vein that was treated with laser, then waiting until after successful closure is documented by ultrasound one month later would be prudent. If the spider veins are not being fed by the deeper vein, they can be treated anytime regardless of endovenous laser ablation (EVLA). However, topical lasers almost always provide inferior results to sclerotherapy.

You would just wait until all of your follow up appointments tell you that the veins that were treated are now closed and no longer require further treatment.

There is no set time for waiting. Since you have had the underlying problem treated, it should be fine to have the dermatologist do the treatment. But, he or she should feel comfortable doing it.

I would suggest you wait 4 weeks before having a laser procedure done.

This should be discussed with the treating physician. Laser for spider veins has significant limitations. Sclerotherapy or VeinGogh may be options for you to consider.

Following closure, I usually wait about 2 to 3 weeks before beginning sclera. Basically, you wait until the bruising is gone and a completion sono shows no reflux.

20 years ago I had liquid Sclerotherapy and was bandaged for one month. The veins weregone when removed. Two months after my foam sclerotherapy my veins are still there. I know brown pigmentation takes a while to fade. The only difference is that this time I was only given compression stockings, not tight, to wear for 1 week. I've been wearing my own (stronger) stocking for 7 weeks, but no improvement. I'm very disappointed. Will the veins ever improve?

I had foam scleotherapy 16 days ago on a very superficial varicose vein behind my left knee. The surgeon injected the vein with foam; however, at that moment, I felt pain along the vein in my inner thigh. I had severe bruising along this vein even though it was far from the site of injection. I now still have bruising and there are palpable tender lumps along the length of the vein on my inner thigh for about 4-5 inches. Is this normal? What do I do?
