I am having stabbing, burning pain in my leg 2 wks after a VNUS closure procedure on a communicator vein. Is this normal?

Two weeks ago I had a VNUS closure procedure on a communicator vein. I still experience excruciating, stabbing pain every morning and evening. I am wearing a compression stocking. During the day the pain is manageable. Is this normal following the procedure?

This would be highly unusual to have some much discomfort from such a small vein treatment. You should be evaluated by your surgeon including ultrasound.

I am sorry you are in pain. You do not say whether this pain you speak of has been present since your closure or if the onset is relatively recent. You also do not mention precisely where this "communicator" vein is located. That aside, it is possible that the closure might have traumatized a nerve (possibly the greater saphenous nerve or the sural nerve). While this sort of neuropathy is uncommon, it can occur. This sort of neuropathic pain should eventually totally abate, it will simply take time. Until then, elevation, heat, compression and moderate use of NSAID medications will probably be your best course of action.

Pain after Vnus closure is not unusual, but check with your treating doctor to make sure it is OK.

What you are experiencing is not too typical. Contract your doctor and set up an appointment so that you can be evaluated.

Pain is very common in the treated veins following closure procedures. The pain tends to worsen around the 5th to 10th days, and then subsides. This pain is due to the tumescent anesthesia dissolving, thus losing the effects of the local anesthesia. Heat and NSAIDS will help, and you should follow up with your treating physician to take a look at you.

Ijust had VNUS closure surgery 4 days ago and the pain is minimal. But, I did notice today it feels like there is a throbbing or heartbeat, almost like a twitching or pumping in my upper leg. It doesn't hurt. Is this normal? What's causing the pulsing/throbbing? Also, am I able to tan (tanning bed or stand up) if I wear my support hose so my leg is not directly exposed to the light, and if I don't use tanning lotion on the leg?? When will the fat, worm-like veins go down or look better?
