An interventional radiologist or vascular surgeon who specializes in these procedures is best. They will do further diagnositic testing and may be able to place stents or perform other procedures at the same time.

Most pelvic venous congestion is evaluated and treated by vascular surgeons or interventional radiolgists. Only a small number of physicians in these specialties have substantial experience with evaluating and treating the problem. In many communities, the OB-GYN physicians will know who in the community has the experience with pelvic congestion syndrome. When considering an appointment, you may want to ask if the physician treats pelvic congestion syndrome. Many do not.

Some patients with pelvic congestion syndrome require treatments which seal shut veins in the pelvis by coil embolization and/or foam sclerotherapy depending on the patient's needs.Coil embolizatin involves passing a small tube through the veins from the neck or groin to place a small metal coil into the vein to casue it to close. Foam sclerotherapy of pelvic veins involves sealing pelvic veins shut with a foam material delivered by needle
puncures into varicose veins near the labia or through a catheter in the neck or groin. this is very individualized treatment depending upon the nature and extent of the vein abnormalities.
