I have cold spots and random aches 13 days after sclerotherapy, is this normal?

I had sclerotherapy 13 days ago. Since then, I've worn the compression hose as recommended, taking them off when I'm sleeping. I keep getting random aches at the ankle & lower calf and have cold spots/chills that happen from time to time. Is this normal?

"Weird" and random aches after sclerotherapy are actually normal. But overall it should be improving on a daily basis. If you have any concerning aches or pains, I would go back in and see the surgeon who performed the procedure.

Never heard of a patient with cold spots following sclerotherapy. It would, however, be more concerning and serious if you had hot red spots.

The aches and pains you're experiencing are normal with the sclerotherapy. Sometimes those cold spots/chills are from nerve irritation, but it is important to have a follow-up ultrasound to make sure that the veins are closed off properly because the sclerotherapy is not 100% effective. It may take a few injections to close off all the veins.

These would be unlikely related to the sclerotherapy, and perhaps more related to a change in sensation after wearing the compression hose. I typically leave my patients in their hose for 72hrs to 1 week for 24 hrs per day, and then they are finished. However, I would discuss this with your treating physician before your next treatment. It would be interesting to know if this is your first treatment or if you have been treated previously. In my experience it doesn't sound like an allergic reaction, but perhaps a test area before any other full treatments would be wise.

Its always best to have your doctor actually examine you for vague symptoms like this to determine their relevance.

Not usual. Perhaps the compression stockings are too tight? I'd recommend you follow up with your treating MD.

This is not normal. Usually sclerotherapy should have no post treatment symptoms. You should return to your treating physician and be reevaluated. An ultrasound may be indicated to look at the deep veins for any abnormality. Also, chills could be a sign of infection. I don't know what you mean by cold spots. See your doctor!
