I have poor circulation in my feet, would compression stockings help?

I'm 16 years old and have poor circulation in my feet, so they're always cold and sometimes they tingle. Also, cuts I get on my feet take forever to heal. Would compression socks help?

No, unfortunately compression stockings do nothing for cold feet, though they are designed to improve circulation and return blood back to the heart. You should address these concerns with your primary care physician and in the meantime, avoid cold temperatures.

No, compressions socks will not warm your feet or induce healing when it comes to open wounds. If you want to know the source of your problem and are looking to treat whatever it is, consult with a certified vascular surgery.

It is very unusual for a 16 year old to have such extensive peripheral vascular disease. Vein disease can also give rise to the tingling and the slow-to-heal symptoms that you are reporting. I would not wear compression stockings at this time until you have been evaluated for your vascular difficulties. Compression stockings in the setting of severe peripheral artery disease is a relative contraindication to its use. If your problem is vein disease then the stockings will help to some degree, but you really need to have your veins fixed given your age since the vein issue and its associated symptoms will only get worse with time.

Before using compression stockings you need a consultation and a full evaluation of your arterial and venous circulation. You need to choose a highly experienced physician in order to get the best evaluation and recommendation.

At 16 years old, it would be unlikely for you to have poor circulation. The best thing to do would be to have an arterial evaluation with an ankle-brachial index (ABI) and lower extremity arterial duplex exam. This will prove the status of your circulation and help to determine treatment, if any. Your symptoms may not be circulatory at all. See a vascular surgeon for an evaluation.

Compression stocking probably won't be helpful. See a vascular MD.

My vascular surgeon did an ultrasound and prescribed endovenous laser ablation. She also suggested that I wear compression stockings after the procedure. However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
