I had sclerotherapy in the right leg 5 days ago. Last night I had foot pain and couldn't stand on the foot. Today is better but it still hurts. I called my doctor and he said the spider veins treated were superficial and could not cause this foot pain. Should I trust him?
I doubt that your foot pain is caused by the sclerotherapy. Foot pain is most likely due to the support stockings.

Go back and get a recheck from your practitioner. This is unusual, and you should be examined.

Trust your doctor, but the foot pain may be due to wearing compression hose. These can be removed, and then see if the pain is better.

It is possible that you may have other veins in your leg that could cause that pain. Spider vein sclerotherapy has such a minimal risk I wouldn't associate that with pain, but other varicose veins could cause pain in the legs in feet.

Hard to explain leg sclerotherapy causing foot pain if the foot area was not treated.

Foot pain as you describe is unlikely from topical sclerotherapy. You could experience small localized area discomfort in an area injected, but not as severe as you experienced.

I would also agree with your doctor unless you had spider veins treated on your foot. Sclerotherapy generally just affects the vein that was injected. Did you wear compression stockings? If so, then at times the foot be
irritated from the stockings. If it continues, of course I would also advise you to see your primary care
physician.

Ultrasound investigation of the extremity in question is a prudent step in this case. Although it would be rare, there are 3 possibilities which I would consider. 1. Superficial phlebitis, which is easily treated with
motrin and warm soaks. 2. Deep vein thrombosis which is best treated with formal blood thinners, and 3. Errant arterial injection which would be a bit more of a problem. Regardless, a quick office visit and "eyes on" your foot would cost nothing and an ultrasound would settle your fears and this issue definitively.

Sometimes pain originates from tight stockings, especially if worn at night. Rarely, a deep vein blood clot can occur. See the doctor and get a duplex scan to be sure. ASAP.

Foot pain after Sclerotherapy is not uncommon. I'd recommend seeing the treating physician and have him evaluate you.

It is not "normal" to have foot pain after sclerotherapy for "spiders." You should have a re-evaluation. Ideally you should have a venous Doppler to make sure you do not have deep vein thrombosis.

There are nerves in the area of the lower leg and foot that can be irritated by sclerotherapy. This can happen but it is very unusual. Sometimes, sclerotherapy itself will cause localized irritation and inflammation. I would suspect that there is a relationship between your treatment and your symptoms. You should follow up with your treating physician.
