Is it dangerous to wear compression hose with a run in it?

One of my knee high hose has a run in the foot up into the lower ankle. Can wearing this be dangerous? My doctor advised to wear the hose for fluid retention. If it is not safe, can I wear just one leg until my new hose arrives tomorrow?

No it is not dangerous to wear just one hose, or wear one with a run in it.
Use kitchen gloves or latex gloves to put them on as this will allow you to
pull the hose away from the skin of the leg rather than poking your
fingernail thorough the hose.

The haose will be ineffective, but I would not consider it dangerous.

Do not worry, you can wear the compression stockings in spite the run.
But, why do you have "fluid retention"? Do you have heart problems? Do you have venous circulation problems? Have you had either your heart or veins evaluated by specialist in those organs?

No problems just replace them when you can. They will be a bit less effective with a run however.

If hose as a narrow run in them, they can be worn to good effect. Usually these don't affect the compression very much. If it is large, it will not hurt to wear them until you get a replacement.
We advise our patients to use gloves (disposable, dish-type or special gloves designed for hose) when applying and removing. This will usually prevent runs from finger nail snags or jewellry.

Wearing this stocking would not be dangerous, but you are losing some of the efficiency of the stocking because of the run. This is an area where the circumferential compression is compromised. Wearing one stocking temporarily is ok.

However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
