Is it normal for the lesser saphenous vein to clot following Asclera?

I had Asclera done 13 days ago, but it wasn't until 4 days ago that I noticed a vein on the back of my right calf had started to bruise longitudinally. A day later I noticed a red, hard, painful lump. I was told my lesser saphenous vein is clotted. Is this normal?

It's not normal but is a possible complication.

Typically, the short saphenous vein is not on the surface but deeper in the muscle. You may have trapped blood in a superficial veins which can happen with sclerotherapy. This is easily drained. You did not mention if you had an ultrasound to diagnose a lesser (short) saphenous vein clot. If you did you should have been place on a blood thinner immediately and had compression hose applied.

Sclerotherapy is the injection of a solution into a vein to dissolve it. The sclerotherapy can extend into other veins to cause clotting of the other veins. Not commonly the great or small saphenous vein can clot from the treatment. Rarely will the deep veins ever clot. If a clot does occur, usually it is only in a small portion of the vein, not the entire vein as has happened to you.
