Is it normal to have a Phlebectomy in the doctor's office and not a hospital?

I just consulted with a doctor about my large varicose veins. He advised me that he could take them out by phlebectomy in his office under local anestic. Is this normal or should I find a doctor to do this procedure in a hospital.

The procedure is correctly done under local anesthesia in an office setting. However, if you have varicose veins, you should have a pre-op venous evaluation to see if you have reflux and, if so, then this should be treated also.

Most phlebectomies are done now in the office setting. The hospital setting is a very unnecessary cost for the vast majority of patients. There is no need to go to a hospital for this office based procedure.

It is very appropriate to have these procedures in an office-setting. It's much easier on patients.

There is no need to go to a hospital for this office based procedure. The costs and inconvenience in a hospital setting do not outweigh the benefits of having this done in a vascular surgeon's office. Be sure that your vein doctor is a board certified vascular surgeon.

It is always better to avoid general anesthesia if possible. We do micro A/P in our office all the time. Please feel free to discuss this with a CVD trained Board Certified Phlebologist.
