Is it normal to have redness & hardness around my calf after VNUS closure?

I had the VNUS closure procedure 4 mo. ago on a small vein in my ankle. I had a cut that was not healing. The procedure was to shut down a faulty valve. The VNUS puncture site on my calf has not healed. It is red and hard around the site. Is this normal?

It is not normal but you are experiencing either an infection at the entry site or more likely, closure of the great saphenous vein to the very site where entry was made (access gained) into the great saphenous vein. See the specialist who did the procedure for guidance.

Some scarring or local redness can happen, but I would definitely follow up with the doc who performed the procedure to have them take a look.

The inflammation (redness and induration) is normal following VNUS closure initially. However, it should improve in 1-2 months. The site needs to be re-evaluated.

4 months is a long time for an entrance site to not be healing. You need to follow up with your treating physician. I would recommend that your arterial circulation be evaluated since you have both a cut and a site from the VNUS procedure that has taken a very long time to heal. This is not the norm.

It could be a large dead varicose vein under the site. But if the wound is open and not healed, it is likely an infection. An infection is very rare, but does occur in about 3 out of every 1000 cases. Go back and ask your doctor to look at it. An ultrasound will show if it is an infection or a large dead varicose vein.

Ijust had VNUS closure surgery 4 days ago and the pain is minimal. But, I did notice today it feels like there is a throbbing or heartbeat, almost like a twitching or pumping in my upper leg. It doesn't hurt. Is this normal? What's causing the pulsing/throbbing? Also, am I able to tan (tanning bed or stand up) if I wear my support hose so my leg is not directly exposed to the light, and if I don't use tanning lotion on the leg?? When will the fat, worm-like veins go down or look better?
