Is a magnetic resonance venography the best test for me?

Extensive ablations & sclerotherapy in both of my failing legs failing. As a result, the doctor is stopping treatment until I get a magnetic resonance venography w/contrast. Dr. suspects ovarian vein or pelvic congestion syndrome. I had an ultrasound done to top thigh only and the tech said the veins there were bad and suggested pelvic MRV too. Is this the best and most definitive test? Thanks

When ultrasound of lower extremities does not explain symptoms or findings on physical examination, additional testing is indicated. MRI is an excellent method of assessing pelvic veins. Ultrasound alone may not be adequate to detect narrowing in iliac veins or reflux in ovarian vein causing symptoms.

You should seek a referral to a board-certified vascular surgeon or interventional radiologist for evaluation and testing.

MRV is the best test for PCS.

In this case, yes. MRI is just a way they can see when they have access to the vein and see the contrast. That venogram will determine if those ovarian veins need to be treated, and typically the doctor will treat that day since you will already be on the table, most likely sedated as well. If those ovarian veins are refluxing then they could be keeping some of the other veins in your legs open, causing treatment to fail.
