Is this pain normal after EVLA and sclerotherapy? I have not been able to resume what I would consider normal activities.

Had EVLA on my right saphenous vein 3 1/2 weeks ago. After 1 week it started to feel good, then hurt for 2-3 days, then started to feel good again.I had foam sclerotherapy performed on the same leg/thigh 9 days ago and it's hurt on/off ever since.

The pain that is experienced can vary from patient to patient. The majority of patients are back to normal after the 2nd to 3rd week. The majority of patients have significant improvement after the 2nd to 3rd day after their procedure.

It can take a few months after vein treatment for the veins to shrink and start to breakdown. It is normal to have intermittent soreness during this time. Usually anti-inflammatory medication and compression stockings will help make you more comfortable until the process is complete.

You should, under normal circumstances, be fully back to your normal activities. Occasionally at about 10 days you may have a slight increase in discomfort due to deeper swelling/inflammation resolving and nerve endings "waking" up. Taking Tylenol and applying low heat takes care of it. If you have pain after sclerotherapy your surgeon should check you with ultrasound. There may be inflammation, trapped blood or extravasation this should be dealt with your surgeon.

Try some anti inflammatory medications I.e. Advil or similar after checking with you provider first of course. A couple of weeks of soreness can happen with laser ablation

In some patients the inflamatory reaction of the vein treatment can be prolonged, especially if the veins were large and or superficial. Discuss with you physician the use of anti-inflamatories. Make sure you wear your compression stockings and walk.

Pain after EVLA is not uncommon and usually is at its worse 5 days to 2 weeks after the procedure. The most discomfort tends to occur in the medial portion of the leg. If microphlebectomies are also performed, they can also cause discomfort for several days. Foam sclerotherapy should not be painful nor cause prolonged discomfort. You should follow up with your treating physician.
