Must bandages be used after procedure?

I have had Sclerotherapy done on my spider veins in my legs every year from 2004-2009. This was in AZ. After the procedure I would wear compression pantyhose (my own, support pantyhose) for 24 hrs. I have always had a great result. Is this acceptable?

Yes, you do not need bandages for spider vein sclero as long as you have the compression stockings.

Our recommendation is for sclerotherapy patients to wear compression stockings for 2 weeks on the treated leg. But if your results have been great, stick with what works for you as long as your doctor is on the same page. Bandages are rarely necessary.

Hello,
In our office, we put on bandages to soak up the minimal bleeding from the injection sites. We put the stocking over the bandages. The patient can take the bandages off the next day.

We have never used bandages after sclerotherapy as they are difficult to manage and are uncomfortable. We use a measured and fitted 20-30 mmHg pressure hose (sheer and comfortable) for 7 days depending upon the types and severity of veins treated. 15-20 mmHg pressure is also acceptable. If you have real compression pantyhose, you should be able to wear them, but most of our patients don't like the full hose.

I recommend compression for 48 hours post-sclerotherapy. The compression can be support hose, pantyhose, ace wraps or even yoga pants. If 24 hours and pantyhose works for you, then that is fine.

I usually just use stockings as well. Some use bandages though.
