My compression stocking is pinching the top of my knee and leaving sore marks, should I continue to wear it?

The knee-high compression sock is pinching the top of my knee and leaving sore marks (indentations). My job requires me to stand all day. I have spider veins in my ankles and on the side of my outer calf. Should I continue to wear the stocking even though it's uncomfortable?

Based on your description that your compression stocking is pinching the top of your knees, I can tell you are NOT wearing them correctly. Knee-high compression stockings SHOULD NOT be worn any higher than two finger width's below the back of the knee (popiteal crease). Wearing them any higher will cut off blood supply and be very uncomfortable. Make sure you are fitted for compression stockings by someone who is trained to do so. They should have told you how to wear them correctly.

My first question is why are you wearing the stockings? Is it for comfort while working, for unidentified swelling, or for venous insufficiency problems? If your swelling extends above the knees, you are better off wearing a thigh-length compression hose. These should be measured and fitted by a professional fitter early in the day. Medical grade compression stockings start at 20-30 mmHg, and you usually need a physician's prescription for these.

Knee-length hosiery should be below the knee joint. You are mismeasured or are pulling too strongly. Get properly fitted.

Compression stockings will not help spider veins, so you probably won't need them.

Either your stocking is too small for you, or you have vein problems above the level of your knee and need thigh-high stockings or possible vein treatment.

If the stocking does not fit properly, then you should not wear them. For spider veins, you require only about 20mmHg compression and only knee-high.

However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
