My leg is swelling after having the endovenous laser ablation procedure, what should I do to reduce the swelling and discomfort?

I had endovenous laser ablation 6mos ago. I was told that I had a clot in my calf. Now, I have swelling at my ankle and lower part of my leg when I stand at my job for 7 hours a day? How can I reduce the swelling and discomfort?

Wear compression stockings, especially while on your feet.

You need another ultrasound exam.

Which vein did you have ablated, and which one do you have the clot in? Daily heating pad will help with the clot and swelling. Did your physician recommend 81mg aspirin daily? Sometimes that is recommended as well. Ibuprofen will help with the inflammation as well. It will take time for the clot to heal and then you can finish treatment.

Generally speaking, compression stockings, leg elevation, and walking (not standing in one place) will help. If you are still in considerable pain, I would follow up with your provider for a complete exam and discussion.

It is possible that you still have the deep vein thrombosis. You might need to be on blood thinners. Compression stockings would be useful.

There are several things that you can do to reduce the swelling including, most importantly, wearing knee length support hose. sleeping with your legs elevated and walking to increase your calf muscle pump. Also you may want to consider lymphedema sleeves.I would also repeat the venous ultrasound.
