My legs throb, twitch, and ache at night.

I am wearing thigh high compression stockings all day long and they are helping but as soon as I take them off at night to sleep my legs start throbbing, tingling, aching, jerking, etc. Should I continue to wear them at night or take them off?

Wear them up until you go to bed at night, but you should consider a consultation with a vein specialist if you are that symptomatic.

Usually we recommend a period at night without the stockings but you can sleep with them if you wish.

You should experiment with different things. Try removing the hose earlier in the evening for a while before bed and walk around a little. You can wear the hose at night with no harm also.

You should continue to wear them at night but you should also have an evaluation to see is there is a cause for your symptoms. You may have underlying reflux which could be treated by venous ablation. A venous ultrasound exam would help to make a diagnosis.

My vascular surgeon did an ultrasound and prescribed endovenous laser ablation. She also suggested that I wear compression stockings after the procedure. However, due to severe psoriasis and eczema on my feet, I cannot wear full-coverage stockings that cover them. They must always be in wet dressings, but cannot be fully covered. Would footless compression stockings be just as effective as full-coverage hose following the procedure?
