Sciatic issues?

Someone posted about buttock/leg/foot numbness after EVLT. In someone with venous hypertension is it possible that removing superf. veins can increase vein pressure in the deep veins, causing pressure against the sciatic nerve and numbness?

Briefly, the answer is no. The deep veins have no contact with the sciatic nerve in the buttocks. Venous hypertension should be relieved by EVLT and increased circulation in the deep system is an improvement. If the numbness in the foot and leg are lateral (on the outside of the leg) in the line of the sciatic nerve, it is more likely an issue from the lumbar spine. An orthopedic/neurologic exam is warranted.

Buttock numbness after EVLA is very unusual as the treatment starts
way below those nerves. The incompetant vein treatment will not
increase pressure in the deeper veins.

I have not heard of that happening but nerve injury can occur. Not the sciatic though that I am aware of. Closing a refluxing GSV should not increase deep flow but should actually decrease flow. Flow through a refluxing vein is the wrong direction and that xtra blood must the re-return through the deep system.

EVLT can have a complication of medial calf or heel numbness due to heating of the saphenous or sural nerves. This is usually temporary. Superficial veins, if du to reflux, will increase venous hypertension, therefore, removing them should decrease the venous hypertension. EVLT has no relation to sciatica.
